The nurse put Mark on a bed with wheels called a stretcher and they wheeled him away down the hall. It was fun to ride on the bed but Mark was a little unsure of going for an operation. His mom and dad said they would be waiting for him until he got back.
The nurse took Mark on stretcher to the operating room and then put Mark on a long narrow bed called the operating table. The doctor put one of the special IV tubes in Marks arm and then gave him some special medicine to make him stay asleep while they fixed his heart.
The operation took a long time. But Mark's mom and dad waited patiently until Doctor Jack came to see them. He told them Mark's heart was fixed and they could go see him in the intensive care ward. This is where all patients go after surgery and they get very special care.
