Then, they put some funny bandages on Marks tummy and hooked some wires to them. Mark could hear the sound of his own heart beating and saw the beats come out as lines on a long strip of paper.
All this was very new to Mark and he was a little scared but the doctors and the nurses were so nice that he was laughing and smiling by the time he had to go home. He was happy that his mom and dad could stay with him the whole time.
In a few days, Doctor Jack and Mark and his mom and dad met again. Doctor Jack told Mark they were going to have to do a special operation to fix his heart. It was not working right. It would take a while to make the arrangements and Mark was to go home and play his favorite quiet games until it was time for the operation.
